Architecture should be our safe haven
Building is a shelter for people, but no matter how strong a building is, it will be damaged one day. Therefore, there is a saying in the earthquake engineering field: "Earthquakes don't kill people, but buildings do." Because earthquakes can discuss the earthquake hazards of the current environment through historical records, geological and engineering earthquake perspectives, and achieve the effect of disaster prevention and mitigation. It is undeniable that many tragedies have occurred, most of which are due to the poor earthquake resistance of buildings, such as old buildings or cutting corners.
In past earthquake cases, it can be known that different building materials have different characteristics, advantages and disadvantages. In fact, as long as it is properly designed, any structure can have good earthquake resistance. However, taking Taiwan as an example, many buildings will change their structure due to commercial considerations, resulting in the problem of "weak layers". In addition, some builders have poor construction quality. Or the oversight is inaccurate, often causing the house to collapse when an earthquake occurs.
